Awake: Reflecting on My Breast Cancer Journey

Reflecting on My Breast Cancer Journey

In the stillness of the night, when sleep feels out of reach, my mind often drifts back to my breast cancer journey. It’s a path I didn’t choose but one that has forever shaped who I am.

I think about the fear I felt when I first heard the words “you have breast cancer.” The uncertainty, the whirlwind of appointments, and the decisions that needed to be made—it all felt overwhelming. I remember the physical pain of treatments, the changes to my body, and the emotional weight of wondering what life would look like on the other side.

But as I reflect, I also see strength. I see moments of resilience I didn’t know I was capable of. I see the support of loved ones, the kindness of strangers, and the unwavering determination to keep moving forward. My journey wasn’t just about the struggle—it was about discovering who I truly am.

Breast cancer changed me in ways I’m still uncovering. It taught me to embrace life more fully, to let go of things that don’t matter, and to celebrate the small victories. It’s not a journey I would have chosen, but it’s one that has left me stronger, more compassionate, and more grateful for every day.

Tonight, as I lie awake, I remind myself: I am here, I am alive, and I have overcome. This journey is a part of me, but it does not define me. It’s simply one chapter in a story of resilience and hope.
